Welcoming the dog days of summer at The Cultch!

They’re full of hair, walk on four legs and often head to the toilet for a refreshing drink of cold water. They say that dogs are man’s best friend, and for us at The Cultch, that couldn’t be more true.

The three gorgeous canine companions that come to work at The Cultch every day each have a distinct personality that make The Cultch the incredible place it is. Katie, Lucia and Fibi may be the smallest members of our team here but when it comes to boosting office morale, providing cute comic relief or simply being a friend to share your lunch with, these special dogs know just what to do. Get to know our fuzzy friends and the important role they play here at The Cultch.

The Cultch intern Dominika Pilat and Fibi.

Fibi

Fibi is three years old and is a welsh terrier who believes in equality when it comes to who she will ask to play. That is, she will ask every person in the office, by way of nudging them with one of her several rubber toys she has scattered around , to play with her. Fibi doesn’t discriminate. Some dogs play only with their owners. Not Fibi. She makes sure to ask every single one of us. Several times. A day.

Sometimes it's hard to get work done when Fibi's around.

Actually, it’s not that difficult to be convinced by her, because Fibi is CUTE. This is the reaction that a person gets when seeing Fibi, they gush in all-caps: OHMYGOD, YOU ARE SO CUTE. When Fibi growls: THAT WAS SO CUTE. When she sits on the floor with all her legs splayed out: CUTE! Her mere jaunting around the office elicits warm feelings of cuteness appreciation.

Rebecca Sharma (Director of Communications & Marketing) and Lucia take a little break

Lucia

Lucia spent her seventh birthday the same way she spends most days in The Cultch office: sleeping peacefully beside her owner Rebecca.

Despite her size, the Rhodesian Ridgeback can sometimes go unnoticed. She’s quiet and calm, whimpering only when she doesn’t know where to find Rebecca.

“[My husband] used to say I coddled her,” Rebecca laughed.

What first endeared Lucia to Rebecca was her independence. “I went to see her at the breeders. She was the only one in the litter who didn’t stay with the other puppies,” said Rebecca.

“The breeders live on a farm in Maple Ridge and there’s this very little moat around a garden. All the puppies tried to get across and Lucia was the only one who could.”

Katie hopes that Executive Director might drop something.

Katie

Katie the Beagle trots along behind her owner Heather, stopping only to cast long, longing glances towards whatever food is being eaten in the kitchen.

Most of the time, Katie keeps her nose to the ground, prowling around the office in search of scraps or an unnoticed, open lunch bag. One day, Katie silently devoured intern Dominika’s entire sandwich while she was away from her desk. “I was gone for maybe 15 minutes doing inventory,” she said.

Despite what that look would lead you to believe, Katie is actually well-fed.

“It was a full-sized, 12-inch sub.”

Katie’s a little dog, with a big, bottomless stomach.
