By Corbin Murdoch, Youth Program Manager
On September 20th and 21st, The Cultch’s Youth Program launched its 2011/2012 season with a two-day workshop with Neworld Theatre Co-Artistic Producer Adrienne Wong.
Adrienne has been spearheading a project at Neworld called PodPlays. She describes the project in the following way:
“A PodPlay is a short, site-specific audio play that takes participants on a walk through the geography of a city and the urban obsessions of its residents. Much like you would listen to an audio guide in a museum, you load PodPlays onto portable media players and are guided on a walk by narration that combines story, music, technology and directional cues.”
In the past year, Neworld has produced 11 PodPlays written by different Vancouver artists and charting narrative paths throughout the city. Neworld has also been reaching out to community groups to teach them how to make their own PodPlays. As part of Vancouver’s 125th anniversary, Adrienne and her team are trying to amass as many PodPlays as possible. The Cultch’s Youth Program was thrilled to have been brought into this process.
Over the course of two evenings, eleven young artists gathered in The Cutlch’s boardroom to put their narrative stamp on a section of a route that Adrienne charted out that circumnavigates The Cultch. Adrienne helped the five artistic teams conceive, develop, write, and record their own PodPlays in the space of eight short hours (four hours each night).
The result is five new theatrical explorations of The Cultch’s neighbourhood. We are inviting you to download the podcasts, load them onto your mp3 player and experience them for yourself. Below you’ll find the PodPlays and a map charting the path you’ll be walking as you experience them. The whole experience will take about 25 minutes.

As of last year Neworld Martial Arts Fitness was the only place I found that taught wing chun. Now, I can’t seem to reach them, and I don’t know of any other facility in Hamilton.
Are there any facilities that you can recommend? Or individual Sifus that are teaching people on there own (not a facility/business)?
Thanks
